The Prophet's Mosque (Al-Masjid an-Nabawi) - 20 piastre
Issued in the 1960s as part of Saudi Arabia's definitive series depicting important Islamic landmarks and national development projects, this stamp commemorates the expansion of the Prophet's Mosque (Al-Masjid an-Nabawi) in Medina. One of the holiest sites in Islam, the mosque was originally established by the Prophet Muhammad and has been enlarged on several occasions throughout history to accommodate the growing number of worshippers and pilgrims visiting the city. The expansion projects undertaken during the modern era reflected the Kingdom's commitment to improving facilities for visitors while preserving the mosque's religious and architectural significance. By featuring the expansion of the Prophet's Mosque, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia highlighted its efforts to enhance services for Muslims from around the world who travel to Medina. The issue celebrated an important achievement in the development of one of Islam's most revered religious sites and emphasized the Kingdom's role in caring for the holy places, facilitating pilgrimage, and preserving the spiritual and cultural heritage of Islamic civilization.
