Inauguration of Dhahran Air Terminal - 6 piastre

This commemorative postage stamp was issued in 1962 (AH 1381) by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to celebrate a double milestone in the nation's civil aviation history. Releasing dedicated issues for infrastructure achievements allowed the Saudi postal administration to highlight major modernization projects and showcase the kingdom's expanding international connectivity across civil mail networks. The issue was released to mark the official inauguration of the new Dhahran Civil Air Terminal alongside the introduction of modern commercial jet airliners into the fleet of Saudi Arabian Airlines (SDI). Designed by the renowned American modernist architect Minoru Yamasaki and completed in 1961, the award-winning Dhahran terminal seamlessly blended traditional Islamic architectural arches with modern precast concrete engineering. The event marked a transformative era for Saudi aviation, drastically reducing travel times for domestic routes and international long-haul flights connecting the Eastern Province to the rest of the world.
