50th Anniversary of King Ibn Saud’s Capture of Riyadh- 1 Saudi ghirsh

This Saudi Arabian stamp commemorates the 50th lunar anniversary of King Abdulaziz Ibn Saud’s capture of Riyadh on 16 January 1902, an event that marked the beginning of the modern Saudi state. The recapture of Riyadh from rival rule established Ibn Saud’s political legitimacy and launched the military and diplomatic campaign that ultimately led to the unification of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 1932. The anniversary, observed in 1369 AH (1950), was officially recognized by the Saudi government as a foundational milestone in national history. Issuing a commemorative stamp for this occasion reinforced the central narrative of state formation, continuity of leadership, and the legitimacy of the Al Saud dynasty. The stamp serves as a historical record of how Saudi Arabia memorialized the origins of its modern sovereignty through its postal system.
